Planted in 1892, this is but the second release of this top-tier site. Fermented spontaneously and matured in a single-pass French cask (2700L) with a seasoning of whole bunch. The most tannic and (for lack of a better word) powerful of these wines. A reductive whiff of violet, tapenade and nori. Ample blue fruits. Tense. But the unravelling of tannic precision is impressive. Almost ball-bearing precision; emery of texture. Long and staccato-like as fruit and tannins interchange roles.

Blueberry, pomegranate and blood-orange zest here with some leafy notes and cassis, too. The palate is smoothly fleshy, refined and elegantly pure. Ripe red-plum, blueberry and cherry flavors sit fresh. Fluid, layered and medium-bodied shiraz here. From vines planted in 1892. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
