94 Points, Wine Enthusiast (2019 vintage)
Creamy red fruit and light stemmy spice adorn this soft, silky wine from coastal sites. It shows an opulent mouthfeel and teases of rose and forest floor. Cranberry, pomegranate and rhubarb come to mind on the palate, as full-bodied tannins and oak contrast it all.
Merry Edwards was one of California’s first woman winemakers and is recognized as being an integral part of putting Russian River Pinot Noir on the map. She founded her estate in 1997 in the Sebastopol Hills then continued to assemble an impressive collection of vineyards over the next two decades. Through her meticulous attention to detail she became reknowned for crafting terroir-driven, single-vineyard Pinot Noirs. Merry retired in 2020 and sold the vineyards to 200 year old French company Champagne Louis Roederer who shared the same philosophy and approach to winemaking, making them the perfect match to carry on her legacy. Today Merry's handpicked successor, Winemaker Heidi von der Mehden continues to make wines according to Merry’s winegrowing principles. The vineyard is now Certified California Sustainable and continues producing legendary Pinot Noirs of immense depth, elegant structure and exceptional longevity.
