Russian River Valley AVA, Sonoma County, United States
Over time, the agricultural use of a piece of land evolves in order to support itself and the farmer. In its previous life as an orchard, this site grew delicious organic apples under the care of Haven Best. As orchard fortunes turned downward, this site gained a new sustainable life as a vineyard. Ken and Merry purchased this Laguna Ridge site in 1999 and planted Coopersmith in 2001. From the outset, the deep, well-drained, sandy soil and the perfect southeast-facing slope of this property have created a wine that has thrilled fans from its first vintage in 2004.
96 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Spicy and herbal, this wine sings in dark cherry, cardamom and rhubarb, broadly lush and yet structured, powerful yet elegant. White pepper and lavender accents contribute compelling complexity and intrigue, the wine full-bodied and robustly built in balanced ripeness.
94 Points, Antonio Galloni (Vinous)
The 2018 Pinot Noir Coopersmith is a dense, powerful wine. Black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and graphite infuse the 2018 with tremendous richness and pure density. Time in the glass brings out the wine's natural resonance and virile intensity.
