“There is no more hands-on, well-connected, ‘vineyard-first’ négociant in Burgundy than fifth-generation Frédéric Magnien. This may be the best red in his vast lineup, containing fruit from vines dating to 1904.” -
Each case contains 2 bottles of each:
2018 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées // Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru
The parcel is located just near the Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares. "Fuée" is a Burgundian word designating the surface that one man can work in one day thanks to his hoe. The vines are planted on rather stony soil composed of marl. The limestone bedrock that dominates this vineyard is quite cracked.

92 Points, Wine & Spirits
Borniques follows the center of the côte in Chambolle, bordering Musigny and running north. Magnien describes the soils as being similar to those of the grand cru, with veins of white and yellow clay through the limestone. The vines, organically farmed, range from 40 to 60 years old, and the wine rests in a mix of clay pots along with 37 percent in old oak barrels. That aging seems to bring out the spritely energy in the wine, broadening its Chambolle silkiness to richness and a pungent savor in the warm vintage. It’s juicy with notes of pear, orange, cherry and plum, and, at the same time, austerely dry in its tannins. Compelling now, this could age into a beauty.
