An unadulterated expression of Pinot Noir. Broody, savory and smoky, the wine envelops you with its seductive and slightly mysterious caress. There are herbal undertones, with 30% whole bunch undoubtedly contributing some of that character, but it's only one layer of many, not the dominating factor. This was a warm summer but the wine retains mouthwatering freshness, and the whole bunch also brings a lovely sappy tension on the long finish. There's 20% new French oak, allowing the fruit to be the star. Supple and drinking well now, it's an intriguingly fragrant style that shows both an adventurous and a more natural side to New Zealand Pinot Noir.
