MARIETTA CELLARS | Marietta Cellars has a history of family winemaking that goes back four generations in Sonoma County. At current count, there have been seven different winemakers in the family. Each has had their own focus and style. The unifying elements have been family, hard work, passion, and a love of the creative process that is winemaking.
TASTING NOTE | The 2014 Estate Syrah Gibson Block, a Syrah-based field blend, exudes depth and concentration. Black cherry, blackberry, cloves, leather and licorice give the wine its inner sweetness and textural richness, but there is also plenty of aromatic freshness and lift. Violet, camphor, savory herb and scorched earth give the wine a sense of gravitas. This wine is built to enjoy with food and will age at least a decade and only increase in subtlety and complexity.
VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING | The Gibson Block is the heart of the McDowell Valley AVA. It is planted with some of the oldest Syrah and Grenache in California. This ancient, dry farmed mixed block next to the original Gibson Homestead has been producing grapes for over a hundred years. Reflecting the hidden property where it is grown, this Syrah is quiet, obscure and profound.
