As leaders in the world of Pinot Noir, we take special pride in the wines that we produce. Believing that fine wine is “grown” in the vineyard, we crafted this Pinot Noir using fruit carefully selected from premium vineyards throughout northern and central California. This effort helps us achieve the unique balance of delicate Pinot characteristics and the more intense fruit flavors found in the different terroirs that comprise our California Pinot Noir.

The fruit for this Pinot Noir is primarily from the Delta region of California and is fermented in closed-top fermenters. A small portion is aged in seasoned barrels to impart slight oak characteristics to the wine, but most is kept in stainless steel in order to stay true to the wine’s lighter, food-friendly style. By fermenting and aging the majority of the fruit in closed stainless steel, we are able to retain the delicate fresh fruit aromas. This Pinot Noir, like many of the world’s finest wines, requires minimal handling.

The California Pinot Noir is an elegant, well-balanced wine offering mouthwatering flavors of Bing cherry and strawberry accented beautifully with just a touch of spice and hints of forest floor. The wine is light in body, with a medium finish and pairs perfectly with a variety of lighter dishes.

This wine is aged in stainless steel tanks so as to respect the typicity of the appellation. Our Chablis are characterised by their freshness, power and tenacity. Their bouquet displays a dominance of mineral notes, which are often associated with delicate touches of citrus fruit (lemon and grapefruit). This wine can be enjoyed within 2 years, an excellent match for seafood or fish.

Domaine Bernard Defaix is a highly-rated family estate based in Milly, with the vines for this bottling averaging 30 years age. Ten months lees ageing adds to the complexity on both the nose and palate. Refined, classy and complex characters on show here, which meld beautifully with the ripe peachy fruit notes. A very fine, expressive, distinctive Chablis which is ready to drink now but will age very well for many years.

give the wine very good hold, reinforcing the overall balance. It is a fleshy, crunchy, pleasurable wine, easy to share.

We cultivate 8 hectares of this Premier Cru located on the slopes of the village Milly and on the right backs of the river Serein. We are the biggest owners of this cru. When some of the plots were planted, we found impressive fossils of Exogyra virgula that had been perfectly preserved. The remarkable stony and sunny soil is captured in this powerful and complex wine. It flourishes with age and expresses mineral aromas reminiscent of gunflint. The Côte de Lechet is indeed one of the Premiers Crus of the Chablisian vineyard with the most exceptional ageing potential. To serve with fish or poultry, with white butter or cream sauces.

There's 20% new French oak, allowing the fruit to be the star. Shea Vineyard Pinot noirs emphasize weight with good acidity, layered flavors, concentrated fruit, and terroir specific flavors. The Shea Pinot noirs Mark has produced consistently out-age wines from other sites. He also considers them to be the most complex and detailed wines he makes. The best wines of Burgundy are exceptionally detailed wines that age very well. If we apply that standard to Oregon, Shea is a great vineyard. Shea is actually two vineyards separated by a steep ravine. Both of the blocks used for St. Innocent are located in the East Field. Block 6 was planted in 1998 with Dijon clone 115 and a small amount of Pommard (11 rows).  It lies on a long SE slope at about 600' in elevation. The Terrace Block faces SW, is planted with the Pommard clone, and gets its name from the terraces carved into its steep slope.

Notes

Savagnin blanc is mostly grown in the Jura. It is most famous as the only grape allowed in the vin jaunes of Château-Chalon and L'Étoile, similar to fino sherry with a covering of flor but not fortified and without the use of the solera system.

100% Savagnin aged for 4 years in barrel without being topped up before bottling. This is a “baby Vin Jaune” according to Jean Francois. Powerful aromatics and richness.

Caves Jean Bourdy is one of the oldest domaines in the Jura. Created in the late 1400’s, the Domaine is now run by brothers Jean-Phillipe and Jean-François, the 15th generation of winemakers at this estate. The Bourdys grow their vines on 10 hectares of land, including a half hectare in Chateau Chalon AOC. Caves Jean Bourdy makes wine the old fashioned way, using old barrels—some as much as 80 years old—for fermentation and aging of the wines. The Domaine was certified biodynamic in 2006, and the combination of some of the best terroir in the Jura and careful and patient winemaking results in wines that thoroughly express the land on which it is grown.

Momtazi Vineyard is located in the McMinnville AVA, 7 miles west of McMinnville, Oregon. The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine come from four blocks at the top of the vineyard on a steep, exposed and windblown hillsides. Planted in 1999 and 2004 on thin, poor soils, the vines have a south and SW exposure at an elevation of 680-760'. The vineyard is certified biodynamic by Demeter. 

Dark ruby red color. Deep perfumed aromas of dried red fruit, concentrated tomato paste, turmeric, and red peppercorns are beguiling and draw you in. The mouth begins with fresh dark red fruit that quickly crescendos, radiating blackberries and blueberries, sweet tar, and spices throughout your palate. Lovely textural richness coats your palate (the “umami”), leaving denser tannins and beautifully balanced acidity. As hard to resist as it is now, this vintage of Momtazi will reward your patience. Perfect with earthy dishes with umami like pho, ramen, braised meats, roasts, mushrooms or dishes with eastern spices.

A dense and concentrated cabernet with aromas and flavors of confectionary blackberry and stewed cassis. The lush fruit is brought into balance by high tone herbal aromatics of mint, sage, and sweet tobacco. The distinctively thick-skinned Cabernet grapes provide a long velvety finish.

Meghan Zobeck makes this wine with cabernet from Burgess’s Sorenson Vineyard, a west-facing parcel on Howell Mountain, blending in a small amount of petit verdot and malbec from Haymaker, an eastfacing vineyard slightly higher in elevation. Aged mostly in neutral French oak barrels (15 percent were new), this developed a textural grace without the weight of oak tannins, feeling airy in its richness. There’s darkness to the fruit and a marrow-bone savor, ending light and breezy.

A pale yellow wine, bright and clear, showing freshness and elegance.

The white Grenache has a unique character and an elegant complexity, with seductive aromas of lemon and grapefruit. After aeration, it is the minerality which comes to the fore, with subtle notes of white flowers and redcurrants.  As the Solus gains power, it reveals a certain distinctive purity through notes of fresh almonds and toasted bread.  Rounded and vibrant, with a long mineral finish, a perfect expression of the Boutenac terroir.

Pair with rock lobster in aspic, coquilles St Jacques, sole with wild mushrooms, foie gras with quince jelly… or our favourite, turbot en croûte with herb butter.

Winemaker Notes

Two new vineyard sources are at the core of this blend. From alluvial soils slightly further inland than our West Sonoma Coast Estate, young vine Old Wente and old vine Clone 4 combine to capture the essence of how we, at Ernest, view Chardonnay. Ripening earlier in the season, these grapes are picked with the acid still very intact but with full physiological ripeness. The old vines giving us full pear and ripe apples notes while the Old Wente drives the palate with minerality and verve. Native fermentations in 228L French Oak barrels, 25% of which are new, this wine was bottled after 10 months on the lees, and a light filtration.

A bright canary yellow wine with clear and luscious golden hues. The fruit notes are reminiscent of Asian pears and loquats with hints of sour unripe pineapples. The minerality is also up-front with nuances of ocean air, wet sands, and oyster shells. For Burgundy lovers, this Chardonnay has the subtlety of flavors and exuberance of acidity and terroir. This is without a doubt a “wine of place” our newest AVA - the maritime-influenced 'West Sonoma Coast'.

In spite of the generous ripeness, this is tremendously elegant and focused, with a ton of crushed-stone minerality. So crystalline at the very fine and delicate finish. Beginning with meticulous site selection and vineyard design started in 1991, Felton Road's story is one of refusal to compromise. A strict 100% estate policy with fully organic and biodynamic viticulture (Demeter certified) ensures that our fruit arrives at the winery as pure as it can be, while our entire estate comes as close to true sustainability as is possible. A commitment to hands off winemaking: gravity flow, wild yeasts, wild malo, an avoidance of fining and filtration all help preserve the wine's expression of its terroir. The result is Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which accurately express the authenticity and complexity of our unique vineyards.

The nose leads with white florals and crushed stones that overlay aromas of pear, cucumber and lemon zest.
