Winemaker Notes
Lanzaga is the backbone of our project, the identity, the purest expression of our work in Lanciego. Made only from a selection of the best grapes from our own organic vineyards, Lanzaga brings together all the elements of our way of work; respect of the place, bush pruning, field blend, organic viticulture, concrete fermentation, aging in foudres and barrels of different sizes and origins, keeping always a limited production of human size. The result is a rich and complex expression of the village of Lanciego; a Rioja wine with a true sense of place; a serious and sophisticated wine that ages wonderfully.
Telmo Rodriguez ranks among the top of Spain’s elite winemakers. Originally from Rioja, he spent many years exploring Spain’s numerous wine appellations observing plots that lay practically abandoned but which had the potential to become some of the best vineyards in the world. He partnered with his friend Pablo Eguzkiza in the early 1990's to create Comapania de Vinos Telmo Rodriguez, a project that has identified and restored sites in nine different wine regions across the country. Trained as winemakers at University of Bordeaux, with formative experience working for some of France's finest, Telmo and Pablo are among the most thoughtful of Spain's post-industrial organic producers today.
