The Dr. Loosen estate is one of the largest producers in the Mosel region and has been in the same family for over 200 years. Ernst “Erni” Loosen, arguably one of the most dynamic and influential winegrowers in the world, assumed ownership of the slightly neglected vineyards in 1988, when his father took ill. The ungrafted vines he inherited were between 50 to 120 years old and were in some of Germany’s best-rated vineyards. Erni realized he had the raw materials to create extraordinary, world-class wines and has since won a multitude of awards for the wines in his impressive portfolio. Today all of Dr. Loosen’s six major vineyards have been designated as “Erste Lage” which is equivalent to grand cru, and produce a full range of Riesling styles that honour the traditions of the family's winemaking history.
