CIGLIANO di SOPRA

Ciglianodi Sopra is an exciting up and coming Chianti producer run by dynamic duo Maddalena Fucile and Matteo Vaccari. The two met at university in Florence while studying wine and were aligned on the kind of wines they wanted to make. They did winemaking stints with some of Tuscany's most sought-after producers such as Montevertine and Fontodi before going abroad to California where they worked with influential sommelier-turned-winemaker Raj Parr at Domaine de la Cote and Sandhi. They were inspired by his emphasis on terroir expression, achieved through organics and low-intervention winemaking, and took what they’d learned back home to Tuscany.
This is a real passion project. These are sublime wines that simultaneously signal a return to the past and a leap into the future -- a timeless style that's all about terroir expression and balance. A refreshing take on Chianti Classico,Ciglianodi Sopra is, without a doubt, a new kind of icon in the making.

Billecart-Salmon 1818 - NV

Sparkling and crystalline with fine and plentiful bubbles. A blooming nose with harmonious notes of butter, white flesh fruits as well as Mirabelle plums and dried fruits. A well balanced mouth, structured thank to the greatness of the Pinot Noirs, with flavours of white fleshed fruits. The Chardonnays bring a refreshing finish with notes of citrus fruits and pepper.

 

Christophe et Fils Petit Chablis- 2023

An attractive nose of citrus rind, white flowers, and wet stone. On the palate, the wine is racy and mineral with just a touch of salinity. The hallmark of the great 2022s will be tension and length and Sébastien’s little wine has both in spades. Incredible acidic cut will make this fantastic at the table and a great candidate for short term aging.

 

Poggio al Tesoro Solosole Vermentino - 2023

Golden yellow in colour with greenish hues, Solosole opens with notes of stone fruits such as peach and apricot, followed by sulphurous and flint-like notes. It has a medium body, with generous fruit character. The finish is long, dry and zesty, especially when young. It evolves interestingly in the glass, an indication of its excellent ageing capacity. 

 

Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir - 2023

The nose is a blend of perfumed notes of rose petal, grilled raspberry and wild strawberry. Savoury aromas of star anise and meat marrow combine with fresh thyme and rosemary. The palate is wonderfully delicate and complete. 

 

Cigliano di Sopra Chianti Classico - 2022

Lovely aromatics here with bright cherry and raspberry fruit with some fine herbs. So fresh and taut on the palate showing elegance but also brightness. This is vivid and alive, with the stems adding some structure and energy to the wine. Very expressive with lots of potential: an elegant expression of Chianti Classico.

 

Château Bernadotte Haut-Médoc - 2022

A focused and refined young wine with lovely tannins, impressive depth of fruit and a juicy finish. Medium body. Well-crafted already. Best from here in a long time.
