DECERO
Finca Decero is a single estate vineyard and the brainchild of Thomas Schmidheiny, a Swiss business magnate with a deep passion for wine. Schmidheiny bought a bare patch of land on a hillside in Agrelo, Mendoza after falling in love with the region during a motorcycle trip from Chile into the Andes. His new venture, “De Cero”a.k.a “from scratch” is now a flourishing vineyard which is immaculately managed by hand from vine to barrel. Decero was joined by head winemaker Juan E. Marcó in 2007, who has embraced Schmidheiny’s vision for a sustainably farmed, world class estate.

A soft and juicy cabernet with currant and raspberry aromas and flavors. Medium body. Easy finish. Delicious.
Winemaker Notes
Decero Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic in style, with cedar graphite and cassis notes reminiscent of Bordeaux. The wine veers towards elegance and balance rather than opulence and power. Located at 3500 feet, in the renowned Mendoza appellation of Agrelo, our one-of-a-kind Remolinos Vineyard takes its name from ‘remolinos’ – whirlwinds which keep the grapes dry and in perfect condition before being handpicked each vintage.

The Owl and The Dust Devil Cabernet

High against the Andes Mountains in Mendoza sits one of Argentina’s jewels: the Remolinos vineyard. Here, in this tranquil environment, a group of Lechuza owls have made their home. Perched atop vineyard posts, they keep a watchful eye over the vines, protecting against pests – both real and imagined.
Throughout the growing season a mystical battle unfolds. ‘Remolinos’, or whirlwinds, arise, spiralling into dust devils, which mischievously weave their way through the vineyard. Catching sight of the swirling dust, the owls take flight in chase, until the dust devils disappear into thin air. The owls then return to their watching posts, satisfied that their precious vines are safe once again.
Little do the owls realize that the dust devils play an equally important role in protecting our vineyard. Their airflow defends our vines from spring frosts and keeps our grapes dry and cool during the summer. This intricately woven scene between two natural wonders, the winged predator and the wind, helps make our Remolinos Vineyard so distinctive and ‘The Owl & The Dust Devil’ wine so exceptional.
From Finca Decero, our single vineyard estate in Agrelo Mendoza, this wine is red blend of some of our most prized parcels of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Tannat, which has been matured for 18 months in French oak barrels.
This wine is a single varietal Cabernet Sauvignon which exhibits classic Cabernet Sauvignon flavours of cassis, red fruits and cedar notes woven together with supple tannins and the taut structure which is the hallmark of its origin, the high altitude Remolinos Vineyard.
Mini Ediciones Tannat
$48.99 x 6
Regular price $260.12 PER CASEWinemaker Notes
Decero Mini Ediciones are three varietal wines made in limited quantities from rare varieties: Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Tannat. These lesser-known varieties have long been respected around the world for their contribution to red wine blends. We planted these varieties, recognizing their potential to layer nuances in our halo blend ‘Decero Amano’.
The forecast of the 2016 vintage was set to be similar to the cool, rainy 2015 vintage. With this in mind, we plucked leaves not only on the east-facing but also on the west-facing canopy to ensure good airflow in face of cool rains. In reality, the intermittent rains stopped in January and the dry February and March saw phenolic ripeness achieved. Due to the dry final 6 weeks of maturation and the leaf plucking, this Tannat shows darker fruit flavours with high acidity .
Of this vintage only 2214 bottles of Tannat were made. The deep body and eponymous tannic structure of the wine combines blackberry, earthy coffee and leather notes. This wine has potential for extensive ageing.

The 2015 vintage was characterized by a warm spring and early summer which brought forward harvesting by 10-5 days. There were frequent summer rains and the final crop of the vineyard was small in quantity but of high quality. These early picked grapes gave u s higher acidity than usual and slightly lower concentration, making the 2015 vintage wine slightly more elegant than its predecessor.
Petit Verdot is one of our three ‘rare varieties & limited edition’ wines. Of this 2015 vintage, only 8182 bottles were made. The wine has great aromatic intensity, displaying wild blueberry combined with quince notes and spices. Very well balanced, with deep flavours and structured tannins, it has superb ageing potential.
