CAILLEZ-LEMAIRE

Champagne Caillez Lemaire is a family-run Champagne house in Damery, Marne Valley, founded in 1942 by Raymond by Caillez and Andrée Lemaire who were considered rebels when they established their Champagne label in 1942 — a break from tradition as their families had been growing and selling grapes since the 18th century. Today, the estate is managed by 4th-generation producers Virginie and Laurent Vanpoperinghe, who operate the 7-hectare estate and strive to ensure that their grapes express the best of their terroir. They promote biodiversity and healthy root systems through the use of alternative methods that allow the propagation of ground cover between the vines and careful ploughing of the soil. The Caillez-Lemaire wines are structural and textured, combining richness and depth with precision. Base wines are mostly fermented in older barrels, a signature of the house style, and are released as extra brut with low dosage. These are complex family-made wines produced in tiny quantities, with the characterful qualities that make discovering grower Champagnes so rewarding and exciting.
