Julien Sunier vinified alongside pioneers of top-notch Gamay (Chauvet, Métras, Lapierre and Foillard) before starting his own business. A follower of organic and natural wines, he likes to remind us that "wine is the memory of grapes" and that we must therefore take care of the soil. This cuvée is a case in point, with obvious fruitiness in a digestible and authentic style. Thirst-quenching Gamay!

Indigenous yeast fermentations in concrete vats at low temperatures, to preserve fresh fruit flavors and a delicate tannic structure. After fermentations are complete, fruit is slowly pressed, over a 24 hour period, using an ancient vertical press Julien acquired in the Côte D’Or.

Aged for up to 11 months in 3 - 9 year old Burgundy barrels so the charming fruit and granitic soil flavors aren't lost.

Designed for fun and drinking. The 95/5 mix is Gamay from Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages combined with Gamaret, a little-known variety created in the 1990s by crossing Gamay with Reichensteiner. The grape was never authorized for use in Beaujolais, so it is sold as Vin de France, but do not let that deter you. It is a juicy, fresh, fruity, soft, delicious summer red that you can serve at cellar temperature or with a slight chill from the refrigerator. Slightly richer and darker than classic Beaujolais, it is further refreshed by a concrete fermentation. The winery suggests you consider serving it with seasonal vegetables, pissaladière, goat cheese, or even tiramisu with raspberries.

Red-fruited with notes of cherry, raspberry, strawberry but also has a hint of cassis. There is a slight dash of spice, dried herbs and floral character to it as well. Fresh and light with fine-grained tannins. Pop this in the fridge for 20 minutes and enjoy it with a slight chill! 

 

Fruit for this wine is sourced from 50-year-old vines, growing on hills around the cru sites in the northern part of region. The soil is partially granitic, which helps to retain heat in the day but cools off by the evening, contributing to the wine's fresh fruit quality. This Gamay is hand harvested, partially destemmed, undergoes semi-carbonic maceration and is fermented with native yeasts. The wine is then aged in stainless steel.
