As leaders in the world of Pinot Noir, we take special pride in the wines that we produce. Believing that fine wine is “grown” in the vineyard, we crafted this Pinot Noir using fruit carefully selected from premium vineyards throughout northern and central California. This effort helps us achieve the unique balance of delicate Pinot characteristics and the more intense fruit flavors found in the different terroirs that comprise our California Pinot Noir.

The fruit for this Pinot Noir is primarily from the Delta region of California and is fermented in closed-top fermenters. A small portion is aged in seasoned barrels to impart slight oak characteristics to the wine, but most is kept in stainless steel in order to stay true to the wine’s lighter, food-friendly style. By fermenting and aging the majority of the fruit in closed stainless steel, we are able to retain the delicate fresh fruit aromas. This Pinot Noir, like many of the world’s finest wines, requires minimal handling.

The California Pinot Noir is an elegant, well-balanced wine offering mouthwatering flavors of Bing cherry and strawberry accented beautifully with just a touch of spice and hints of forest floor. The wine is light in body, with a medium finish and pairs perfectly with a variety of lighter dishes.

Plungerhead wines start in the heart of Lodi, California, which has grown in popularity
over recent years for crafting world class wines. Our goal is to make wines reflective
of Lodi’s true character with rich flavors that are bold and reflective of its unique soil
and Mediterranean climate.

We use three primary vineyards for our Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourcing in
Lodi; Alabama Ranch Vineyard, Mettler Family Vineyards, and Stama Vineyards. Both
Alabama Ranch and Mettler Family Cabernet are in Borden Ranch sub appellation, while Stama Vineyards is in the Clement Hills sub appellations of Lodi.

The Borden Ranch sub appellation is known for having well drained, deep red soil and
produces well-structured and concentrated red wines. Clement Hills sub appellation,
known for its rolling hills at the base of the Sierra Foothills, has a warmer and wetter
climate known to produce award winning red varietals. The balance of the blend is a
collection of red varietals including Petite Sirah, Zinfandel from Lodi, and Tempranillo
from Clarksburg. All three varietals add individual nuance flavor, texture, and complexity to the wine.

A deep purple in color, this wine has alluring aromatic notes of blackberry, leather,
cinnamon and toasted cedar with hints of white pepper. The first sip shows juicy flavorsof dark ripe cherry, and raspberry compote. The mouthfeel is silky, with a lengthy and flavorful finish with notes of plum, vanilla and toasted almonds.

The 2019 Armé Cabernet Sauvignon has a medium ruby-purple color and layered aromas of red and black currants, violet, iron, underbrush and mushrooms. The medium-bodied palate is pleasantly rustic and a touch chewy, with bright acidity, pretty floral perfume and an earth-laced finish.

Winemaker Notes

Armé, Marietta's husband and Christo's great-uncle, lived a self sustaining lifestyle. Only going to the store for flour or sugar, all else was either pickled, canned, hunted or fished. With one foot in California and one foot in the old world, this first generation Italian American lived, worked, hunted and fished throughout Alexander Valley, the Yorkville Highlands, and the McDowell Valley. He and Christo fished throughout the Russian River, and Dry Creek River tributaries, and 60 years later, from these exact basins, we now farm the grapes which make his namesake wine. Combining the best of what these sites offer, this unique Cabernet Sauvignon is an approachable yet incredibly serious wine, representative of excellent site selection, and innovative winemaking. 

The grapes for this wine are hand selected from our Estate vineyards in Alexander Valley, the Yorkville Highlands and McDowell Valley. The wine is aged for 20 months in neutral barrels. 6,000 cases produced.

An exemplary California Cabernet aromatic experience filled with dried, minty herbs, and lavender. Blackberries, bright cherries and plums, with hints of leather and tobacco, all intertwine for a wonderfully balanced mouthfeel. This wine is sumptuous yet racy, polished yet spirited, delicious and gratifying- an iconic result in the glass.

From alluvial soils slightly further inland than our West Sonoma Coast Estate, young vine Old Wente and old vine Clone 4 combine to capture the essence of how we, at Ernest, view Chardonnay. Ripening earlier in the season, these grapes are picked with the acid still very intact but with full physiological ripeness. The old vines giving us full pear and ripe apples notes while the Old Wente drives the palate with minerality and verve. Native fermentations in 228L French Oak barrels, 25% of which are new, this wine was bottled after 10 months on the lees, and a light filtration.

A bright canary yellow wine with clear and luscious golden hues. The fruit notes are reminiscent of Asian pears and loquats with hints of sour unripe pineapples. The minerality is also up-front with nuances of ocean air, wet sands, and oyster shells. For Burgundy lovers, this Chardonnay has the subtlety of flavors and exuberance of acidity and terroir. This is without a doubt a “wine of place” our newest AVA - the maritime-influenced 'West Sonoma Coast'.

Winemaker Notes

The B Side Cabernet Sauvignon is a deeply concentrated and expressive wine. Aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, currants, Kalamata olive, and dried lavender are pronounced on the nose. This is a full-bodied wine with juicy layers of dark fruit, jam, baked pie, and hints of cinnamon flavor. The brooding fruit is quintessential Napa and Sonoma and with ripe, powdery tannins the wine is soft and easy to enjoy in its youth. The wine is aged for 12 months in predominately French oak barrels (Francois Frere & Radoux) with a small portion seeing time in American Oak. The toasty French oak frames the wine and the addition of a small amount of American oak gives a pleasing, sweet coconut lift. This overall wine is deep, well-structured, and intensely flavored with soft tannins and a lengthy finish.
