CERBAIA

Cerbaia is a boutique winery in Montalcino, whose distinctive wines pair that savoury, rustic Tuscan character with unmistakable elegance and lift. Despite making less than three thousand cases per year, Cerbaia has captured the attention of critics and in-the-know Sangiovese enthusiasts en masse. Founded in 1978 by Fabio Pellegrini, a sucessful politician who recognized the potential of his land to make special, long-lived wines. He planted 4.5 hectares of Sangiovese on the north-facing Montosoli hill, setting out to make a small amount of high quality wine that reflected this unique terroir. Fast forward to 2014, when Fabio's daughter Elena similarly felt the pull of her family's land and left her career in corporate finance to to return home and run the winery. Elena has refined the winemaking over the last decade and has really hit her stride. Using sustainable practices in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the cellar while respecting tradition, she is producing incredible, finesse-driven wines that emphasize the purity that the best Sangiovese can find.
