This is a young, immediate red which retains the essence of the earth from which it was cultivated. It is characterised by fragrant scents and fresh flavours and is the ideal accompaniment for any kind of dish. While molinara is no longer mandatory in the blend, it is prized here for its capacity to impart freshness. Sour red mountain fruit doused with mint, bitter herb and anise. There is a crunchy sense of compression to the wine, too, thanks to the peppery tannins sewing up the seams. Textbook freshness. Delicious drinking. Drink now.

This is packed tight with a concentrated, silky bead of ripe red berries and red cherries that drives through the palate, until fine, quite firm tannins block its path right at the end. Medium-bodied, but the concentration of fruit makes it feel heavier. Lots of energy here, but balance, too. Delicious now. Even better after another year in bottle. From organically grown grapes. The Quintarelli Giuseppe 2012 Cabernet Alzero (packaged in a heavy glass bottle) is a stunning wine that delivers a level of cautious brawn, intensity and fruit weight that sets this wine apart within the portfolio. The blend is 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, and the grapes all undergo a few months of appassimento. I've been asked about possible perception of VA (volatile acidity) that can sometimes appear in wines made with air-dried fruit. As a much-respected Italian colleague once told me, "serve a dare spalla," ("it gives a shoulder to the wine"), and I can't help but admire the beautifully lifted and upright quality of the bouquet that appears especially radiant and buoyant in this wine. The magic, whatever it is, works.

Have you ever wondered what first-growth Bordeaux would taste like if subjected to the great Venetian tradition of producing wine from dried grapes? The Alzero is just that, combining the leather, tobacco, and blackcurrant of the Left Bank with the concentration and intense notes of ripe fruit acquired from appassimento in this powerful monument to northern Italian viticulture. The sublime flavors persist on the epic, never-ending finale to what is essentially an Amarone made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot.

Fully saturated red-ruby. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, blackberry, spices, violet and grilled nuts. Sweet and silky but also juicy and lively, thanks to harmonious acidity keeping the nicely concentrated flavors vibrant. This boasts excellent balance; not at all made in a jammy style, this finishes very clean, steely, and classically dry (about 3 g/L rs), with a very typical underlying note of graphite. A blend of 70% Corvina and Corvinone, 25% Rondinella and 5% Molinara all grown at roughly 400 meters asl but the vines are specifically located where the hill changes direction, such that the grapes bask in a fresher, windier, and more sunlit area . There the grapes ripen because of the light and not of the heat, which is important because while the grapes need to be concentrated, they also need to have enough acidity. The wine ages three and a half to four years in oak and then one year in bottle. Drinking window: 2027-2038.

A classic Valpolicella Ripasso. A powerful and elegant wine with aromas of roasted coffee and chocolate. Deft & silky, not over-extracted. Lovely Corvina edge of petals and almond nmd earthy leathery notes. Bright, intense garnet red. Aromas of ripe plum and sweet hints reminiscent of hazelnuts and Amarena cherries and black elderberry. On the palate it impresses with a fully harmonious, dense body paired with a round tannin structure. Intense cassis notes as well as licorice and truffle taste. Long-lasting, exciting finish with a lot of concentration of ripe berries.
