Clean, bright, medium layer. Beautiful cherry red color with garnet evolution. Intense. Barrel notes are very present. Sweet sensations, lightly toasted. Very well integrated with notes of slightly ripe fruits of the forest. Pleasant in the mouth. The tannins are very well integrated, round. Medium finish marked by toasted barrels.

It matches with any kind of meat and mushrooms rice. Some tasty or oily fish such as tuna or cod. Medium-aged cheese such as emmenthal or gruyere.

Basa is made from Verdejo and Viura grapes in the Rueda DO, about two hours northwest of Madrid. The region is famous for fresh white wines made from Verdejo and this is a fitting example. The name comes from the 40-year-old 'baso' or bush-trained vines that are planted on limestone-rich soils at over 700-meters elevation on a plateau along the Duero River. The vineyard is farmed organically, and fermentation is carried out spontaneously with native yeast. Expect a fresh, fruit-driven white wine with just the right balance between charming fruit and aromatic complexity.

Pale, green-tinged yellow. Fresh citrus fruits, succulent herbs and white flowers on the incisive, mineral-accented nose. Taut and energetic on the palate, offering juicy Meyer lemon and green apple flavors that slowly put on weight with air. Finishes on a repeating mineral note, with very good persistence and lingering fennel and lemon pith qualities.

The wine is fresh on the nose with hints of white flowers and white peach. On the palate, it's fresh with an excellent balance of acidity and some sweetness. It is rich with floral and creamy pastry undertones. Long and persistent finish. 

 

The handpicked and mechanically harvested grapes come from their vineyard site called “Can Bas” with an average age of vines of 15 years. Grapes are picked from mid-August until the end of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a very low temperature between 12 -14 ºC for several days. The coupage wine obtained undergoes 2nd fermentation in the bottle according to the traditional “Méthode Champenoise”. We employ a strain of yeast which increases mannoprotein content in the cava in order to achieve velvety and creamy mouth feel.

This wine is golden with green undertones. On the nose there are notes of apple, wildflowers and almonds. On the palate, the wine is fresh, flavorful and creamy with citrus fruit, toast and dried fruits. 

 

This wine is made with 50% Macabeo, 30% Xarel-lo and 20% Parellada. The grapes are handpicked and carefully harvested from mid-August until the end of September. The vines are between 20 and 30 years. They undergo a cold soak for several hours in order to maximize the primary aromas. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a very low temperature between 12 -14 ºC for several days. This wine is bright cherry in colour and on the nose it smells like fresh strawberries and dried berries. On the palate it has small, constant bubbles and juicy red fruit flavour. It is lively and well balanced.

 

This wine is made with 85% Trepat and 15% Pinot Noir. The grapes are manually harvested grapes at the beginning of October. They come from vineyards with the average age of vines between 25 and 30 years. Cava is made with the utmost winemaking techniques and the greatest care. The de-stemmed grapes undergo cold soak for several hours in order to maximize the primary aromas. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a very low temperature between 12 -14 ºC for several days. The coupage wine obtained undergoes 2nd fermentation in the bottle according to the traditional “Méthode Champenoise”. We employ a strain of yeast which increases mannoprotein content in the cava in order to achieve velvety and creamy mouth feel. The cava ages in the silence of our cellar on its lees.

The influence of the Atlantic Ocean is on full display, with its moderating influence playing its part in bringing balance to this wine. While it is ripe and full bodied, much like its white counterpart, this is vibrant and focussed, with no shortage of complexity and minerality.

Telmo’s red wine, once again from Galicia, is a red that shows the character of the stony hills and the Atlantic Ocean. This is a red wine made of 100% Mencia, a Spanish varietal found scattered through the country’s northwest. The vineyards are organically farmed, and the fruit is fermented again in stainless steel in order to maintain freshness, and using indigenous yeasts.

Telmo Rodríguez’s journey through Spain reviving and recuperating vineyards has led him to work with 43 different varieties. Although established in Rioja, he has also put Málaga back on the map and worked with Garnacha in the Sierra de Gredos, as well as establishing wineries in other regions. This Mencía is fermented and aged in stainless steel, revealing the variety’s purity. Sarah Jane Evans MW: Forward, juicy aromas. Distinctly individual profile, with dense, succulent fruit and a long, ripe finish. Beth Willard: Pretty nose with tomato vine, sour cherry, floral. The 2020 LZ comes from an early harvest after a warm year not without challenges (mildew). The Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano grapes come from their own organically farmed vineyards and fermented in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts for 15 days; the wine matured in concrete for six to seven months before bottling. It's very primary and has notes of licorice and a juicy texture. Pablo Eguzkiza was telling me he likes 2020 better than 2019. The wine shows very good balance and fine, round tannins.

The Pizarra vineyards are usually found on metamorphic soils. This type of soil is found at an altitude above 950 meters, up to 1,200 meters, mainly with an eastern orientation. The wines from here have a different expression, they are always complex, direct and profound.
