Although this wine dances the line between raw and crunchy red fruit, between deliciousness and perfumed, spicy seriousness, this vintage of Parke carries the dense fruit weight and ‘gibier’ complexity of a ‘Grand Vin.‘ It torques up the volume in the mid-palate, and a grand finesse of suave fruit emerges that leads us to a saline minerality. This Wismer-Parke will undoubtedly mature into one of the hits of this Toussaint Release!

Here, the nose seems “gloss first” at the moment but displays class and lanolin with an agreeable waxiness and richness. There is finesse and tension and an elegant white-flower-perfumed, pear-fruited complexity. The perfect conjunction of mineral terroir and lovely subtle complexity. Really bright. Precision, weight and a real sense of place.

From the western side of Line One, just outside the Old Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Not only is Kirby* Vineyard in the Four Mile Creek sub-appellation, but the Four Mile Creek actually runs along the side and back of the vineyard! The colour is a little deeper than the “Les Villages,” but the nose – while still a little mute – is fairly brimming with red fruit, minted raspberries with a clove-spiced edge. It swirls as it dances across the palate. Darker-toned flavours ‘cut into’ the beam of the cherry fruit dance. Huge volume and sense of place on the impressive slatey finish from these older vines! We are still undecided as to which of these two Kirby iterations best reveal the local terroir. Stay tuned for the 2023s next year at this time!
