A very classic Duncan Savage white wine, showing blackcurrant leaf, pineapple, pear and grapefruit, backed by subtle wood spice.

This is the fifteenth vintage of Duncan Savage's icon white and it's up there with his best releases. Combining Sauvignon Blanc and 21% Semillon from three different sites, it's an effortlessly complex, self-assured blend with fine lees, layers of blackcurrant leaf, seaweed and lime, subtle wood and a savoury, salty undertone. Sublime stuff. 2027-32.

Duncan Savage was the winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards' for 14 vintages. In 2011, he started his own label on the side. Through his time at Cape Point, Duncan grew to understand maritime vineyards and crafted a reputation for profound and saline whites with great aging potential; this led him to source grapes for his own project, Savage Wines, from similar maritime and high altitude sites. His wines were met with great acclaim and in 2016 he quit his job to turn his attention to his namesake project. At first he created wine by borrowing other people's wineries but today he uses his own winery in Salt River, Cape Town. Duncan is no doubt one of the best winemakers in South Africa. In fact, Tim Atkin (MW) has proclaimed, "Duncan Savage thinks he hasn't hit his full potential yet. Heaven help his rivals when he does.

Sourced from Chenin Blanc vines planted in Paarl in 1956, this cuvée showcases a captivating bouquet of lemon curd, dried honey, and candle wax. The palate is balanced with keen acidity, lightly spiced and waxy in texture, evolving into notes of chamomile, peach skin, and a saline finish.

Complex yet friendly, the 2023 Bourgogne Blanc comes from several sources: young vines in Saint-Romain from plantings on the valley’s northern side; high-altitude Bourgogne-designated Chardonnay from just outside the appellation; and purchased fruit from their friends at the esteemed Domaine Guillot-Broux in the Maconnais, who have practiced organic viticulture since 1954 and became certified in recent years. Aged for one year without racking in used 228-liter barrels, it combines a lacy white-flower aromatic overlay with dense, ripe, salty fruit; the bright acidity of the high-altitude Bourgogne nicely offsets the luscious generosity of the Maconnais-sourced fruit, and the young Saint-Romain provides a stony anchor.

The appearance of this natural wine is pale yellow and is slightly cloudy, due its lack of processing. On the nose, strong aromas of banana, apple and pear blend with toasted brioche. In the mouth, it is full-bodies and rich, with a creamy refreshing and fruity acidity. 

The vineyards at Viña Echeverría are located in the Curicó Valley and the rows are planted in an east-westerly direction to potentiate the sun’s exposure. We work with a model of micro viticulture, which means that each plot, no more than half a hectare, is identified according to its terroir and microclimate and planted, pruned, irrigated and harvested accordingly, resulting in grapes of optimum quality and flavor.

An attractive nose of citrus rind, white flowers, and wet stone. On the palate, the wine is racy and mineral with just a touch of salinity. The hallmark of the great 2022s will be tension and length and Sébastien’s little wine has both in spades. Incredible acidic cut will make this fantastic at the table and a great candidate for short term aging.

It's the kind of bright nose that gives the drinker an intimation of the acidity and tension that will follow on the palate, which is indeed nervy but also generous with an appealing balance of flavours offset by a rocky, shell-y harmony. This wine is the  “Signature” of our oenologist Dimitri Bazas. This Bourgogne Chardonnay comes from a selection of our best barrels of Chardonnay. The grapes are grown in the classic regions of Puligny, Meursault, and Rully. This harmonious blend gives it both the classic character of Chardonnay from the Côte d'Or as well as the floral elegance, which is typical of the Côte Châlonnaise.

 

The grapes are manually harvested and aged for 10 months in barrels. This wine is made up of a selection of 30 barrels (30% of which are new). The wine is bright yellow with golden highlights. It has strong aromatic intensity; the nose is rich and well opened, with notes of exotic fruits and white flowers as well as notes of caramel and vanilla on a background of toasted bread. It is fresh on the palate with an opulent body, smooth and round. At the finish, it has a good aromatic persistence of fruit, united with a good balance between the acidity and the roundness.

A blend of three native grapes. It has refreshing lemon and green apple notes, some minerally sensations and a little breadiness. On the palate, it's refreshing, citric and savoury with lots of bright acidity.

 

This wine is from the northwest part of Lazio, near the border with Umbria. Legend has it that a bishop traveling to Rome would send a scout ahead of time to establish which inns were offering the best wines and he'd mark them with the word "Est" (which translates to “it is” in Latin). When he reached Montefiascone, the wine was so excellent there that the scout noted “Est! Est!! Est!!!” on the local inn’s front door, and so this wine is a nod to this story.
