il fauno di Arcanum is a Bordeaux-style blend that embodies the diversity of the estate and is sourced primarily from the Arceno di Sotto, La Curva, Colombaio and San Giovanni blocks. Located in the lower southwest section of the estate, in a warmer, exposed subsection that ripens early, the soils possess a significant amount of clay, with good water retention, and produce wines that tend to be more voluptuous and lush.
The nose exudes black cherries, wild honey, and sweet mint. This full-bodied wine immediately finds every nook and cranny of the palate, framed and defined by an intense minerality. Flavors of dark plums, sweet roses, dried fruits such as fig and apricot are enhanced by black pepper and exotic spice characters. The finish is vibrant and uplifting, with bright acid and a hint of cedary oak.
The 2019 vintage had a late start. A cold winter with bountiful rains allowed the vines to rest and the ground water to be replenished. The cold weather carried through into spring, resulting in some May rain that posed a challenge for flowering. The summer welcomed us with pleasant temperatures that heated up in August but were moderated by occasional rain showers. Fall consisted of beautiful warm days and cool nights, allowing for perfect ripening balance. Harvest began on September 14th with Merlot and ended on October 23rd with our 600-meter Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon (Campi). 43% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot. Wine is aged in frenh oak for 10-12 months.
