There is suggestion of the sauvage on the ripe aromas of dark berries, violet, humus and hints of freshly turned earth. There is a lovely sense of verve to the beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors that possess evident minerality that provides a sense of lift to the youthfully austere and moderately firm finale.
2018 produced reds that should be popular as they're round, charming and forward and thus should provide for early drinkability. The whites aren't as concentrated and more heterogenous though they too are charming and forward in their fashion. Conditions at the harvest were essentially ideal and we could pick deliberately. Moreover, the fruit was clean so there was no risk of rapidly spreading rot. We harvested from the 25th of August until the 13th of September and brought in good yields in both colors but especially generous in white.
For the vinification of the reds, I decided to use about the same percentage of whole clusters as I did in 2017, meaning from 0 to 100%. I also chose to ferment at relatively low temperatures, which is to say nothing over 27 degrees Centigrade. Thankfully I had no fermentation stoppages and interestingly for a vintage that wasn't short on potential alcohols, the wines fermented out very dry as everything came in at a maximum of 1.5 grams/liter and some were even as low as 0.5 grams/liter. Importantly, no reds were acidified, and I intervened only with two whites.... Overall, for me 2018 is a vintage of pleasure that should allow everyone to enjoy them as it won't be necessary to wait for years before they'll be approachable
