Nestled just below the bench to the north, this is Corey and Lena Mio's story… but it's also the story of their families, who have gathered around them to help them make this vineyard a success. They make it under their own name as ‘Sempre Mio’ but we also make Mio Vineyard Gamay Noir. There is a delight to the senses and it’s as delightful as the people who grow it.
Blueberry and blackcurrant intertwine on the nose. These wines get more serious with every passing year. Now entering early middle age, there is a seriousness here that we had not perceived before. This is a vineyard to put in the cellar for a couple of years, as the long and stoney fruit-laden finish inspires you to. Only a medium ruby colour, but wow, does this wine pack a punch as it goes across the palate! For sure, you take a quick sip, and you say, “This is good juice!” Rich Bing cherry fruit, earth, and minerality. Higher acid compared to what we're used to with Pinot Noir, but a great site, and absolutely delicious Gamay Noir! Not as fruity and confectionery as some. One really tastes the limestone here.
