CELLAR
Heitz Cellar, founded by Joseph Heitz in 1961, is among the most celebrated of all producers in Napa Valley history. Their iconic 1974 Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is considered to be one of the greatest wines ever produced in the region. The estate was purchased in 2018 by the Lawrence family who share Heitz’s vision and commitment to the same core values of fine winemaking. The wines are made from 100% organic, sustainably farmed Napa Valley fruit in a way that cherishes the history and legacy of the winery’s heritage.

The 2018 vintage was one of exceptional quality for Heitz Cellar. The cooler to moderate temperatures during the growing season allowed us to balance sugar and phenolic maturity in the fruit while maintaining natural acidity to help preserve the fresh characteristics of the vintage. The elegance and balanced structure of the 2018 vintage will make this an incredible wine to drink upon release and will continue to reward with cellar aging.
94 Points, James Suckling
A pure, balanced and fresh Napa cabernet that is not just showing heady concentration and dark fruit. Here you get some violets, nimble flowers, redcurrants, graphite and fine spices. Some oranges, too. Fragrant and nuanced. Medium to full body with tight yet refined tannins. Rather linear, tense and elegant, but lacking neither power nor definition. Better to give it a few years to deliver more complexity.

Aged for nine months in large neutral casks and a combination of new and used French oak, the 2016 Lot C-91 exhibits the density and length of which only the truly great wines of the world are able to achieve. The presence of savoury elements such as sage, rosemary, cured meats, and black pepper distinguishes this cuvée from any other. The conclusion of the Lot C-91 on the palate displays incredible complexity and harmony, and those who can afford to be patient will be rewarded for decades to come.
The origin of Lot C-91 begins in the fall of 1969 with the idea that through meticulous site selection and assemblage, we can create something more significant than the sum of its parts. This historical cuvée is sourced exclusively from the renowned single vineyards of Heitz Cellar and showcases a most unique expression of the terroir of the Napa Valley.
In keeping with the original vision, Lot C-91 continues to be sourced from treasured parcels in Western Oakville, Eastern Rutherford, Southeast Howell Mountain, and the foothills of St. Helena and represents a greater step up in quality from the acclaimed Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

The silky tannins and tightly wound core of this wine are hallmark signs of this vintage’s aging potential. Blackberry, ripe raspberry, cassis liqueur, and briar notes fill the glass and are complemented by an earthy sweetness that Trailside has become synonymous with. Fresh vanilla, toasted nuts, and baking spice characteristics from the Limousin oak give an elegant lift to the ripe fruit notes.
93 Points, Robert ParkerFrom a vineyard on the eastern side of the Rutherford AVA, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Trailside Vineyard boasts cedar and dusty earth shadings alongside cherries and redcurrants. It's medium-bodied, with more focus and tension than the Martha's but perhaps a bit less generosity and richness. Long and dusty on the finish, it promises to age well for up to two decades.

ZINFANDEL, CABERNET SAUVIGNON
The Andosol contains floral aromas including lilacs and roses, with ripe black cherries and strawberries and a note of pink peppercorn that lingers on the palate. The volcanic soils offer a distinctive iron and tar aromatic flavour married with the fine tannin and acid tension, expressing a profile akin to a cru Barolo.
A house favorite, Andosol draws inspiration from the historic field blends of California. The nuances in this wine pay homage to European principles of winemaking, while expressing familiar traits often found in the new world. Each year this cuvée is crafted to best express the unique mountain terroir comprised of volcanic rock and ash formed in the Miocene era almost five million years ago. Undoubtedly, this site and the inherent stress it lends to grape growing saturates the grapes with intensity and depth. The nutrient-rich volcanic soils and rugged site of the vineyards lend vibrancy to this mountain Zinfandel. A unique perspective of the Ink Grade Estate, this polished and bold wine is meant to be enjoyed in its youth but will also age incredibly well.

96 Points, Wine Advocate (previous vintage)
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard barely hints at eucalyptus on the nose, with much more emphasis given to black cherries and cassis. This is full-bodied and rich, nicely balancing richness and texture against linear shape and focus and picking up hints of blueberries and spice on the long, mouthwatering finish. With 112 barrels having been bottled, there's a fair bit of this wine to go around, if one can afford it.
In the mid-1960s, an agreement was made between Joe Heitz and Tom May to source cabernet sauvignon fruit from May’s small Oakville vineyard for Heitz wines. Ever since 1966, Heitz Cellar has been crafting the now illustrious Martha’s Vineyard cabernet sauvignon, one of our three vineyard-designated cabernet sauvignons.
Tucked against the Mayacamas mountains in the celebrated Oakville AVA, with fertile, well-drained soil and afternoon shade, this superior site is home to the unique proprietary cabernet clone which has brought this vineyard legendary status.“Standing in Martha’s Vineyard, you quickly realize why this site consistently produces a remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard receives gentle morning and early afternoon sunlight and is sheltered from the heat of the late afternoon sun by the mountains. This allows for longer hang time and Martha’s Vineyard is, historically, one of the last vineyards we pick. This ability to leave the fruit on the vine longer than other sites allows for concentration of flavor and softening of tannin to produce a wine so pure in its expression of place. The consistency in showcasing Martha’s Vineyard’s unique mint, bay leaf, dark berry and chocolate notes year after year is a reminder of why this vineyard has commanded a faithful following since the 1966 vintage.” – Brittany Sherwood, Winemaker
