Swiss businessman Donald Hess became enamoured by the landscape and the wines of the Napa Valley while on a business trip in the in the mid 1970s. He began studying the terroir of Mount Veeder and the possibilties of growing wine at elevation and became convinced it posessed the right combination of soils and microclimates to produce exceptional quality wine. He established The Hess Collection Winery in 1978 on the site of one of the region’s oldest wineries, the heart of which is an historic stone building built by masons back in 1903. The vineyards thrive on their rugged terrain and today the next generation of the Hess family continue David’s legacy crafting a fantastic collection of award winning luxurious wines.
