The cool yet sunny environment of our Te Awanga Vineyard near Cape Kidnappers allows the development of intense Chardonnay flavours in the grapes, captured using traditional winemaking techniques seen in the Chablis region of France.

Aromas of fleshy peaches and crisp pears with fresh citrus notes of lemon and mandarin, lay amongst hints of blossom, thistle and subtle oak sweetness. These aromas carry to the palate where they are harmonised by the delicious salinty, chalky texture and fresh acidity distinctive of its coastal site. This bright yellow wine with pale greenish highlights is made from a careful selection of bunches of grapes. The bouquet conveys hints of citrus fruits, crusty bread and fleshy yellow fruit such as apricots. The taste is fruity and fresh, well-structured, with a well-balanced acidity and minerality.

 

Among the green hills of Western Sicily, a few kilometres from the ancient Norman town of Monreale, the Di Lorenzo family cultivates one of the native Sicilian grapes par excellence, Grillo. The grapes are hand-picked and then delicately destemmed and crushed. The cooled and softly pressed must is transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation takes place at a temperature of 13°C. After 30-40 days of slow fermentation, the resulting wine is racked and kept on lees for at least a month to enhance its volume and structure. The wine is aged in steel for four months followed by two months’ bottle-ageing.

A very fine, expressive, distinctive Chablis which is ready to drink now but will age very well for many years.

Harvest began early in the season at lower sugar levels to achieve the mouthwatering natural freshness required for the making of great base wines in classic Méthode Cap Classique style. Basa is made from Verdejo and Viura grapes in the Rueda DO, about two hours northwest of Madrid. The region is famous for fresh white wines made from Verdejo and this is a fitting example. The name comes from the 40-year-old 'baso' or bush-trained vines that are planted on limestone-rich soils at over 700-meters elevation on a plateau along the Duero River. The vineyard is farmed organically, and fermentation is carried out spontaneously with native yeast. Expect a fresh, fruit-driven white wine with just the right balance between charming fruit and aromatic complexity.

Six superb parcels of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc are selected to form the Annabel Sauvignon Blanc. One particular parcel is considered that special that it gets hand-picked for this ‘Grand Cru’ style wine. All parcels provide a unique expression; the ensemble delivers a range of vibrant flavours.

All parcels are fermented with different yeast strains, at different temperatures in order to emphasize the differences in fruit flavours and aromas. Obviously the handpicked parcel is special to us, we let it ferment and mature in barriques for some 5 months. Lees stirring these barrels further helps to creates that small percentage of a creamy / ‘leesy’ component. All this together ellevates the Annabel to a Grand Cru, subtle but complex still very recognisably ‘Marlborough’ Sauvignon Blanc.
