The history of Marqués de Vargas goes back to 1840, when the first vineyards were planted at the Hacienda Pradolagar estate. Located in La Rioja region of Spain, the estate was inspired by the Châteaus of France, releasing exclusive limited production wines, crafted by using only select grapes sourced from the estate’s own sustainably farmed vineyards. Their exceptional Reserva and Gran Reserva wines age beautifully and are designed to reflect the personality and uniqueness of the terroir.

Ruby in colour, this wine has a freshness to it but the nose is rich and concentrated. It is silky on the palate with notes of blackberries, spice, dark chocolate and some balsamic from American/French/Russian barrels.

 

The handpicked grapes used for our Marqués de Vargas Reserva come from our 50 hectare vineyard “Hacienda Pradolagar”. Herbicides and pesticides are not used in our vineyards, occasionally only organic fertilizers are employed. The wine is made traditionally according to the old-world methods side by side with state-of-the-art technology. The wine is bottled without any fining or filtering resulting in an unprocessed and fully natural wine.

This wine is made with grapes exclusively from our vineyards between 16 to 31 years old. During the harvest the time from the vineyard to the fruit reception is mas. 30-40 min and so we avoid oxidation and spontaneous fermentation. A great red wine. Elegant power with a lot of personality. With a base of fresh fruit and mineral touches. Round in mouth, tasty and velvet, balanced, with very good acidity and integration of wood.
