Schug Carneros Estate - Sonoma Coast Chardonnay - 2022
Golden yellow in colour with greenish hues, Solosole opens with notes of stone fruits such as peach and apricot, followed by sulphurous and flint-like notes. It has a medium body, with generous fruit character. The finish is long, dry and zesty, especially when young. It evolves interestingly in the glass, an indication of its excellent ageing capacity. Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is produced with the minimal use of new oak, to allow the bright varietal character to shine through. It was harvested from select vineyards located in the Sonoma Coast appellation, including the cooler microclimates of western Carneros, southern Sonoma Valley and the Petaluma Gap. It has a spicy apple aroma with hints of nutmeg and cream. Silky textured, it has delicate flavors of fresh fennel, pear and ripe apple. Try it paired with aged cheeses such as Gouda or Manchego, or with delicate seafood dishes, soups and pastas.
Marietta Cellars - Armé Cabernet Sauvignon - 2021
An exemplary California Cabernet aromatic experience filled with dried, minty herbs, and lavender. Blackberries, bright cherries and plums, with hints of leather and tobacco, all intertwine for a wonderfully balanced mouthfeel. This wine is sumptuous yet racy, polished yet spirited, delicious and gratifying- an iconic result in the glass. Marietta’s husband, Armé, nurtured my father’s love for this majestic landscape we call home. Like an early morning horse ride through chaparral, this Cabernet kicks up waves of floral, mint, and dusty sage on the nose. Elevated, clear, and refreshing, this wine startles and intrigues. Across the palate a broad flood of grippy tannins is eroded by a core of velvet. Fresh and rounded, big yet steely, with hints of Kalamata olive under the primary note of blueberry, this wine has incredible focus with settled length. Delicious now, this will show added layers and depth over the next 5-15 years.
