MARCO ABELLA

The Marco family have owned land in Porrera since the time of the first census taken in Catalonia in 1497. Their vineyards were decimated by phylloxera in the 1800s and what had once been some of the best vineyards in the Priorat region, were left abandoned until Ramón Marco Abella revived them years later. In 2001, Ramón’s grandson David and his wife Olivia created a three tier winery built seven metres into the hillside so that the wines can be moved entirely by gravity. They aim to make wines which express the authenticity, characteristics and essence of the Porrera region and are some of the most expressive, high quality, and immensely drinkable wines coming out of Priorat today.
